Random Rant - Pride in June... too hot?
So many of Millenials complain that it’s too hot in the middle of summer to hold a Pride Parade. Many propose we change it to the Autumn when it’s cooler…
I gotta say HELL NO! Don’t you dare think you can change history just because you don’t like a hot steamy night… It’s history that we are celebrating… Yes, HISTORY!
Yeah, it’s too damn hot in June to have a Pride Parade… but we do it! So, why the hell do we do it in June?
It’s a lil thing called the Stonewall Riots - Ya’know, the birth of the modern gay movement. The riots started on June 27, 1969 - look it up if you don’t believe me.
THAT is why we honor the BIRTH of the gay movement in this country by holding our Pride Parade in June. I know some cities have moved their Pride celebrations and Parades to another month, but that doesn’t mean it’s right. The whole thing started as a way to honor our ‘family’ taking charge of their lives that fateful night in June.
So please, put down ur Grinder for an hour a day and pick up a book (they even have ebooks now for those who are allergic to paper, heh heh)… Learn your gay history lest you repeat the mistakes of your forefathers and foremothers and end up losing the few rights we fought to give you.
Besides, our city has a night parade and it makes for super sparkly lighted floats, and gogo boys in glow-in-the-dark g-strings… LOL
